Cummulative reflection
My experience in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University has shaped my development as both a technical expert and a responsible professional. Through rigorous coursework in power systems, signals and systems, embedded systems, and Java programming (Com S 228), I cultivated strong analytical and problem-solving skills grounded in mathematical modeling, system design, and debugging. These courses challenged me to move beyond theoretical equations, encouraging me to consider reliability, cost, safety, and societal impact in engineering decisions.
Hands-on projects, including my senior design drone project and automated conveyor control system, reinforced the importance of system-level thinking, integrating both software and hardware components to solve complex real-world problems. These experiences also taught me to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and manage tasks independently, skills critical for navigating professional engineering environments. By leveraging external resources, such as technical documentation, research articles, and online platforms, I strengthened my ability to learn independently and apply new knowledge to solve problems that extend beyond classroom instruction.
My professional experiences, including the ARA research internship and software engineering internship, exposed me to modern engineering challenges such as software development and wireless network optimization. These experiences emphasized that engineering solutions must be robust, secure, and adaptable to real-world conditions, while also considering global, societal, and environmental impacts. For instance, responsibly using AI-assisted coding tools required careful validation, transparency about risks, and ethical decision-making, highlighting the intersection of technical competence and professional integrity.
Overall, my education has prepared me to approach engineering challenges with a combination of technical expertise, ethical reasoning, effective communication, and continuous learning. I now view engineering as the integration of systems, people, and societal considerations to design solutions that are both effective and responsible.
